The bell shaped (for low center of gravity and heating efficiency) tinned copper Captain's kettles used aboard Nantucket Whalers and Downeast sailing vessels, as early as 1800, were truly thoughtful works of art. The only improvement with our kettle was replacing the original copper handle, which was subject to heat transfer, with a hand-rubbed, tung oiled, Mahogany handle.
From start to finish, creating our kettle was more than year's project, including such challenges as tool making, dies, locating the proper spinning lathe (circa 1910), correct seam assembly, soldering techniques, tin lining, perfecting pouring rate and finally, proper finish for the period.
10 1/2" diameter, 9 1/2" high, 1 U.S. gallon capacity.
If you would like a solid brass engraving plate attached to the top of the handle please indicate engraving instructions on the note field of the order form. $30 USD will be added to your order for the 3/4" by 3 1/2" engraved plate, please allow 10 business days for engraving.
